First off…sorry for the late post 😦
Today when I woke up I felt like wearing black…no, I am not mourning anyone. I just felt like it. I had my whole outfit picked out – red shirt, black tank top underneath, black jeans, black, over-the-knee boots. It was perfect. Or so I thought…until I tried putting on my jeans. After feeling completely devastated for 7.5 seconds realizing that my favourite (and only) pair of black jeans did not fit I realized I had to do something about it! (Thanks to Julia Roberts in Stepmom – remember the scene when the daughter is sitting outside of school crying because the boy she liked embarrassed her in public? Well Julia Roberts gives her two options…cry or do something about it…you really need to watch the movie!)
Over the years I have collected an infinity of workout vids…pilates, jiu jitsu, ballet workouts (im not a ballerina), etc. Somehow buying them just made me feel better…Only one or two have actually been introduced to my DVD player. By the way, the ballerina one = tough! It is 45 mins long and boy is it intense! My legs trembled for DAYS afterward.
I found this “30 Day Shred” DVD that I bought during “closing days” at Zellers…the sticker price says $6, but I know I paid less than that…Anywho, I instantly put on leggins, dusted off my free weights, searched for my runners and got to work. If anyone has seen The Biggest Loser then you know how tough Jillian Michaels is…or so they say…I have never seen that show. Reality TV just doesn’t interest me…except for Dance Moms of course.
Basically, it is divided into three 20-minute workouts (level 1, 2, and 3). You’re supposed to do each level for 10 days, beginning with level 1. Each 20-minute workout is divided into three circuits. She uses the 3-2-1 circuit training system: 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of abs – which you repeat three times. She has two girls who help her, one, whose name I cant remember, shows an advanced version of the moves, and Anita, the one to her right, who shows an easier version of the moves. Jillian shows you how to do the moves, how and when to breathe, and points out what not to do (mainly to avoid injuries). She also NEVER stops encouraging you!
I don’t workout on a regular basis. I only walk my dogs twice a day for about 2 hours each walk. So when it comes to exercising I am quite a beginner. This workout video was tough for me. Today was my first day so I am only at level 1 (9 more days to go! whoohoo) but I was exhausted. To be honest I wanted to quit during the first circuit while doing the cardio part of the workout. I thought my legs were going to break during that second set of jumping jacks. But I did not give up. I am determined to get back into my jeans. Then Jillian had us do push-ups! Honestly I have no upper body strength, so I followed Anita and did girl push-ups…somewhat…I think I did them right.
I’ll be keeping you guys posted on my progress with this workout. I did not check my measurements today, but I will tomorrow, that way I can compare and see if there are any changes in 10 days from now.
If you’re on the same boat as me…ate too much during Christmas holidays, can’t fit into jeans and too poor to buy new ones, then try out Jillian Michaels workout…it is only for 30 days and who knows? Maybe it’ll work! Give it a chance and Try it out! 🙂
